Course Description:
This is an introductory lecture on the literary works produced in Britain
during the Romantic period in which the idea of modernity was first conceived. The
canonical poems by the six major poets are still the main targets of course,
but they will be explored in the context of the modernity that has expressed
itself in all aspects of British society after the French Revolution. Main
emphasis falls on a close reading of the key texts such as "London,"
"Tintern Abbey," and "Ode to a Nightingale," but they will
be read more as a part of artistic expression of the modern mind we still share
in the 21st century.
Text: Norton Anthology II(8th edition) or any other downloadable texts
from electronic sources
