Topic: Romantic Autobiography: Wordsworth and Byron

In this class, we will explore the idea of autobiography in the age of romanticism. After surveying a variety of autobiographical works in the history of English Literature along with their theoretical frameworks, we will focus on Wordsworth¡¯s The Prelude and Byron¡¯s Childe Harold¡¯s Pilgrimage to illuminate their unique nature as romantic autobiographies.

 

Texts: A coursepack will be provided at the beginning of the semester.

 

Evaluation: Two Essay proposals 20%, Attendance and Class Performance 10%, One Term Paper 70%
