Topic: Romantic Autobiography: Wordsworth and Byron
In this class, we will explore the idea of autobiography in the age of romanticism. After surveying a variety of autobiographical works in the history of English Literature along with their theoretical frameworks, we will focus on Wordsworth’s The Prelude and Byron’s Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage to illuminate their unique nature as romantic autobiographies.
Texts: A coursepack will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
Evaluation: Two Essay proposals 20%, Attendance and Class Performance 10%, One Term Paper 70%
