Course Description: This is an introduction to British and American Culture. Students will read a selection of literary
and non-literary works in English to understand British and American Culture.
Students are required to read the designated texts beforehand for each
class. This section is for the freshmen
in the Division of Humanities only. All classes will
be conducted in English except Reviews and Q & A Sessions.
Text: Introduction to English Literature edited by Ewha Institute of English and American Studies. The other reading
materials not from the main textbook will be made available in PDF format
through Armytage.net or Cyber Campus. Studying
Culture: A Practical Introduction by Judy Giles and Tim Middleton will be
used as a sourcebook for some excerpts from prominent authors of culture
studies that will be read along with the literary works related to them.
Evaluation: Midterm exam
35%, Final exam 35%, Two Quizzes 10%, One Individual Presentation 10%, Class
participation and Attendance 10%.
Class Policy:
-Attendance is
important. If you do not attend more than FIVE times(1/6 of all classes), you
will automatically get F.
-Audio or Video
recordings in Class are not allowed.
-All electronic
devices should be turned off during the class.
